Krystle and I went to our first scheduled appointment today. I arrived 15 minutes early and signed Krystle in at the front thinking that I would get a head start on filling out paperwork to speed things along. The women behind the counter just looked at me like I was crazy through the glass and just watched as I went and sat down. Ten minutes later Krystle showed up and immediately walked up to the counter and these broads opened the window like they normally would. Irritation #1 & 2
So then I overhear the receptionist tell Krystle that they don’t have her updated insurance information and they would have to “work her in” because their schedule was full today. Then they say that this is a pregnancy confirmation appointment (um…duh) and that she would have to have a sonogram appointment as well as some other appointment scheduled at a later date. I started spouting off some things I probably shouldn’t have under my breath and Krystle then grabbed the paperwork and came over my way. As soon as she sits down she started ranting that the last time she was there it took 2.5 hours to get in and there was no way that she was going to make it that long without eating. So I grab my things and head out to grab something from Mc Donald’s. Irritation #3-???
I get back to the Dr’s office and Krystle and I scarf a burger down before being called back to the waiting room around 30 minutes after our scheduled appointment time (really not that bad all things considered) . The first thing they have Krystle do is step on the scale (eek!) and quickly Krystle says “I’ve lost weight!” Krystle has been so upset because she thought she was putting on weight early in this pregnancy and in actuality she has only added 2 lbs. At any rate it was the best news I had heard all day (LOL.) So after making it to the waiting room I start going over in my head my sales pitch that I’m going to talk with the doctor about. I had to take a deep breath because I was almost to the point of looking up OBGYN doctors from my phone.
Once the doctor walked in she started talking to us and addressed about every issue that I was prepared to confront her about and actually calmed both mine and Krystle’s nerves the like when she suggested that we get worked in the schedule to get a sonogram today instead of waiting since it is so difficult for Krystle to take off work. Beyond that, the doctor was very nice and answered every question thoroughly for us. To say the least, we no longer felt like cattle being herded thru the place. Plus she was able to get us right in to get the sonogram (score!)
So we walk over to get probed and pictured. They turn out the lights and I pull up a chair and grab Krystle’s hand. If I had popcorn, I think I could have sat there for a couple hours. As I’m watching the screen I hear the technician tell Krystle numerous times to relax and stop moving her leg (lol) because she’s making it difficult to see. Then I look over and Krystle only had one eye open and the other was squinted at best from all the movement of the condom wrapped probing device.
The tech was kind enough to get us a picture printed off and we were lucky to have the baby facing the camera and not side view. So after a bit of a rough start we ended up pleasant with our first visit and were told that we are…
8 weeks, 5 days today! The baby had a heart rate of 171 BPM. We couldn’t be happier…
